During the month of August I visited India. In that trip I got darshans of both the Periyavaas in Tirupathi during their Chathur Masya Vratham. This was my first time to matam and did not even know the normal procedure of visiting such holy place. When I visited, there were not many people. However, those were there came with proper things such as flowers, fruits etc. We were told by few elderly people on what we need to get when we meet Periyavaas.
We were waiting in the lobby without knowing whom we are waiting for. First came Shri Bala Periyavaa. We all paved the way for Him to walk. He slowed down once He came near us and scanned the crowd with His calm and powerful eyes and they stopped when He saw me & my family. Then we did our namaskarams at His holy feet. He enquired about me – I told Him about me and where I come from and introduced my family to Him. Bala Periyavaa enquired if my son is studying well. Then I enquired about the correct poonal age for Him – whether to go with the popular theory of even and odd years. He told me that no need to follow that theory. I asked if I can do the poonal function in US. Bala Periyavaa recommended any Shiva Shetram for it. Bala Periyavaa also asked me to provide birth details of Rohin to his sevakaas to find a good date for the function. We did our namaskarams to get His blessings and were blessed with vibuthi and kumkumam.
It was time for Periyavaa’s Chandramouleeswarar puja. There were about 40 devotees sitting outside as Periyavaa sat inside and started the abishekam. I chanted Shri Rudram with others and it was a very memorable experience to witness such a great event. Since it was getting late for our train in the evening, we decided to go for darshan of Balaji at “Kheezh Tirupathi”. This small trip took almost an hour and a half. When we got back, Periyavaa was done with all the puja and was sitting in the room to bless devotees. I waited in the line and did my namaskarams to Periyavaa. Then I introduced myself to Periyavaa. Once I told that I come from US, Periyavaa enquired about Shri Guruvayurappan & Yagnaraman. I know them. Then I updated about some of the vedic activities happening in Chicagoland. Later on in that conversation, I asked Shri Periyavaa about the size of the vigrahams I can keep at home for worship. He showed a size with His hand and says that anything bigger than that should not be kept in puja room. I requested one of His sevakas the possibilities of a small lingam or a rudraksha blessed by him. After my request was conveyed to Him, He directed one of them to bring the Vinayakar vigraham from His room. There comes the beautiful shining Ganesha vigraham with Periyavaa’s blessing. Periyavaa confirmed with me if I have a separate puja room as I have devi vigrahams too. Before we left, we did our namaskarams to him and he blessed all of us. He gave a copy of Nityakalyan magazine to Rohin. I felt a complete with our trip.
